Fresh toppers for dogs & cats

A spoonful of fresh food makes mealtime more exciting, and it is the easiest way to give PetShrooms 7. These are toppers and treats to add to your pet's regular food, not full homemade meals.

7 easy toppers: 3 for dogs, 2 for cats, 2 for both.

Three topper rules

Keep extras under 10%

Toppers and treats should stay under 10% of your pet's daily calories, with the rest from a complete and balanced food (UC Davis; WSAVA).

Plain and cooked

No salt, butter, oil, onion, garlic or seasoning. Cook meat, fish and eggs all the way through.

Let the food cool, then stir in your pet's usual serving.

Cats are different

Cats can't make enough taurine on their own, and home-cooked diets often fall short on it. Keep cat toppers small, and talk to a veterinary nutritionist before cooking full meals (VCA Animal Hospitals).

Choose a category

Serving size for every topper: small dogs 1–2 tablespoons, large dogs up to ¼ cup, cats 1–2 teaspoons, on top of their usual food. Each keeps 3 days in the fridge or 2 months in the freezer.
